Ingredients

  • 2 8-ounce cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 5 Granny Smith apples peeled, sliced, and cut into 1 to 2 inch pieces
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ cup water
  • cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and prepare a baking sheet or baking stone by lining with parchment paper.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat add apples, lemon juice, and water. Cook until the apples begin to soften; about 7 to 9 minutes.
  • Combine dry ingredients. Add brown sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, nutmeg and salt to a mixing bowl. Whisk together well.
  • Add the sugar mixture to the skillet and toss the apples to coat. Cook until the sugar syrup thickens; about 2 to 3 minutes. Stirring often.
  • Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  • Open the tubes of crescent roll dough and separate the triangles. On the prepared baking sheet create a ring with the crescent rolls by arranging triangles in ring so wide sides of triangles form a circle in the center. Dough will overlap and will look like the sun. Press down the crescents where they overlap.
  • Spoon the apples onto the overlapping crescent dough in a circle.
  • Place the points of the crescent rolls over the apple filing and tuck under bottom of dough to secure it.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown.
  • Slice and serve warm.
