Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk, (can use whole milk)
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Cinnamon Coating

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat two donut baking pans with non-stick spray.
  • Whisk together the egg and oil in a medium sized bowl.
  • Next mix in the buttermilk and vanilla.
  • Then add in the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder and salt. Mix everything together just until combined. Don't overmix.
  • Spoon the batter into the donut wells in the pan. (The batter will be thin.) Fill the wells about ¾ of the way full.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Make the cinnamon sugar mixture while the donuts are baking.
  • In a small bowl mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the coating and set aside until the donuts are done.
  • Once donuts are done remove from the oven and transfer to wire rack. Cool donuts for 10 minutes before topping.
  • Brush melted butter over top of donuts, then dunk each one in the cinnamon sugar mixture coating. Be sure to coat all sides.
  • Donuts are best served while warm.

Notes

Push a toothpick along the edge of a donut for easy removal from pan.
