One thing I really love about this recipe is that it uses simple basic ingredients that I usually keep in my pantry. So I can whip up a batch of these dessert bars anytime the craving hits.

Substitutions And Variations

  • These bars can also be made with nut butter or sunflower butter instead of peanut butter.
  • To double the peanut butter flavor leave out the chocolate chips and add peanut butter chips instead.
  • Raisins make a great addition in these bars and add more flavor.
  • You can use Nutella instead of peanut butter. Kids love Nutella so it's the perfect substitution.
  • For a little crunch add in some pecans or walnuts. My husband always loves nuts in dessert bars.
  • Use creamy or crunchy peanut butter in the recipe. Either one will work.

How To Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bars

Prepare a 9x9 pan by lining it with aluminum foil or parchment paper and set it aside.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter then stir in the brown sugar until well dissolved. Add in the vanilla extract and oats and cook until all ingredients are well combined.

Split the oatmeal mixture in half and add ½ of it to the bottom of your prepared pan. Smooth and press it into an even layer.

I saw this same recipe on Facebook. It said you could use a 9x13 pan if you want thinner bars. Is this true?

Hi Patty. I haven't tried it in a 9x13 pan. The bars may be too thin if you didn't double the recipe. But if you decide to try it please come back and let us know how it works out!

This recipes looks yummy! Just clarifying, is it one stick to two sticks of butter? The picture of ingredients show two sticks but the recipe says one...but then says sticks.

Hi Megan! Thanks for catching that. It is 2 sticks of butter and I have corrected the recipe card. Hope you enjoy it!
