Did someone say peanut butter and dessert in the same sentence? Yes please! This sweet, salty, and creamy no bake peanut butter dip is for all the peanut butter purists out there.

No excessive amounts of chocolate, graham cracker crumbs, or fruit in this dish. It's just thick and salty peanut butter suspended throughout a mixture of sweetened cream cheese and cool whip.

One of the reasons I love this peanut butter dip is because it pairs so well with a variety of crackers, cookies, and sliced fruit.

I love the tart element that some sliced green apples bring to this dessert, but you could go the more traditional route and try dipping strawberries or Vanilla wafers in this Reese's peanut butter dip instead.

When you’re serving a treat as smooth and creamy as this easy peanut butter dip, you can’t go wrong!

Ingredient Notes

See printable recipe card below for all ingredients, specific measurements, and complete instructions.

Ingredients to make peanut butter dip set out on counter.
  • Peanut Butter - Adds a salty and nutty flavor that perfectly balances the other sweet elements in this dip.
  • Cream Cheese - Creates a thick, smooth, and tangy dip base.
  • Cool Whip - Thawed. Adds just the right amount of light and creamy sweetness.
  • Powdered Sugar - To balance out the tanginess of the cream cheese and saltiness of the peanut butter.
  • Miniature Reese’s - When chopped, these tiny chocolate peanut butter candies add a subtle chew and pop of color to the top of this creamy dessert dip.

How to Make Peanut Butter Dip

This peanut butter dip uses simple ingredients and is so easy to make!

  1. Use an electric mixer to whip together the cream cheese, cool whip, powdered sugar, and peanut butter until smooth.
  2. Gently fold in the chopped miniature Reese’s.
  3. Serve with your favorite dippers and enjoy!

How To Store Dip

To store I recommend placing the dip in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

When you’re ready to enjoy this treat again, gather your dippers and eat your leftover peanut butter dip straight from the refrigerator!

I don't recommend freezing this dip. It doesn’t always thaw perfectly and it sometimes turns grainy and runny.

Recipe Tips

  • This peanut butter dip will come together best if all the ingredients have been sitting out on the counter for at least 30 minutes. This will help to soften up the cream cheese and cool whip.
  • If you want to leave out the candy in this recipe, you can use peanut butter baking chips or chocolate chips instead of chopped Reese’s candies.
  • You can use a wooden spoon, rubber spatula, or electric mixer to mix this peanut butter dip.
  • I recommend using smooth peanut butter rather than crunchy peanut butter. Smooth peanut butter is easier to mix in with the other ingredients. If you are wanting to up the peanut flavor and add some texture, try mixing ½ cup of chopped peanuts along with the candy.
  • Because this dip is best served cold, I don’t recommend letting it sit out on the counter for more than 40 minutes at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make peanut butter dip without cream cheese or cool whip?

Yes! Simply swap out the cream cheese for a can of sweetened condensed milk and the cool whip for some freshly whipped heavy cream.

The resulting peanut butter dip will be a little runnier than the original recipe, so I recommend storing it in the refrigerator until just before serving.

How do I thin out peanut butter?

If you don’t have an electric mixer and you find that it’s hard to mix the thick peanut butter into the cream cheese mixture, you can thin it out first!

To do this, simply place your peanut butter in a microwave-safe dish and warm it up! When the peanut butter is warm, it will be runnier and easier to whip into your other dessert dip ingredients.

Can I make this dessert dip with spreads other than peanut butter?

Absolutely! If you’re a fan of chocolate, I highly recommend making this dessert dip with Nutella instead of peanut butter. Cookie butter, granola butter, or any type of fruit jam would also be delicious in this dip!

Peanut Butter Dip Serving Suggestions

Not sure what flavors will pair best with this rich, sweet, and salty peanut butter dip? I find that there are a wide variety of fruits, cookies, crackers, and other treats that are perfect for dipping into this peanut butter and cream cheese concoction.

Best choice for fruit dippers include strawberries, sliced apples, and banana slices. If you want a salty and crunchy snack, some good options are vanilla wafers, pretzels, and graham crackers.
