I've been making this ice cream for years, and it's always a hit. There's something about the combo of creamy ice cream, crunchy cookies, and fun sprinkles that just puts a smile on everyone's face.
One thing I love about this recipe is how easy it is to switch things up. Sometimes I'll use different Oreo flavors, or throw in some extra mix-ins like white chocolate chips. You can even change up the sprinkle colors to match different holidays or parties.
This is a favorite at summer BBQs and birthday parties. It's always gone in a flash, and people can't believe it's homemade. Plus, it's a blast to make with kids - they have so much fun crushing the cookies and choosing their favorite sprinkle colors and shapes. It's a great way to get them involved in the kitchen!
Ingredient Notes
See the printable recipe card below for all ingredients, specific measurements, and complete instructions.
- Heavy whipping cream: This is the base of our ice cream. Make sure it's cold for the best results.
- Sweetened condensed milk: This stuff is key for making the ice cream sweet and creamy without churning.
- Vanilla extract: Just a bit is needed to boost the flavor.
- Golden Oreos: These give the ice cream a great crunch and vanilla flavor. Breakf them until into pieces by hand or in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin. Be sure to leave some big chunks for texture!
- Rainbow sprinkles: Because who doesn't love sprinkles? They make the ice cream look fun and festive.
How To Make Funfetti Golden Oreo Ice Cream
First, place your mixing bowl and beaters in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Trust me, don’t skip this step!
Pour the heavy cream and vanilla into your chilled bowl. Beat it with your mixer until it forms stiff peaks. You'll know it's ready when you lift the beater and the cream holds its shape.
Now, gently fold in the sweetened condensed milk. Try not to deflate the whipped cream too much - we want to keep it fluffy.
Here comes the fun part! Toss in your chopped Oreos and sprinkles. Fold them in gently until they're mixed through.
Dump the mixture into a loaf pan. Smooth it out and add some extra sprinkles on top if you're feeling fancy.
Cover it up and pop it in the freezer. Give it at least 4 hours, or leave it overnight if you want it really firm.
When you're ready to dig in, let it sit out for a few minutes to soften up. Scoop, serve, and enjoy!
Ice Cream Variations
- Try different Oreo flavors. Mint or birthday cake Oreos are pretty awesome in this. You can also use the regular Oreos if you want that chocolate flavor.
- Add in some chocolate. Chocolate just makes everything better, doesn’t it? Feel free to throw in some chocolate chips. White chocolate chips would also go perfectly with the Golden Oreos!
- Add a crunch. Add some chopped nuts if you like a bit of crunch.
Make-Ahead, Storing, and Freezing
Make Ahead: This Funfetti Golden Oreo Ice Cream is great for making ahead. You can whip it up a week before you need it.
Store: Just keep it in the freezer, covered tightly or in an airtight container. It will keep for about 2 weeks.
Freeze: It's ice cream, so it's meant to be frozen! Just make sure it's well-covered to avoid freezer burn.
Recipe Tips
- Use cold cream for the best whipping results.
- Don't overmix when you're folding everything together. We want to keep it light and fluffy.
- If the ice cream's too hard to scoop, let it sit out for 5-10 minutes.
- Want to make it extra indulgent? Drizzle some caramel or chocolate sauce on top before serving.
- To avoid ice crystals, press some plastic wrap right on the surface of the ice cream before you freeze it.
